Not all of Britain’s historical building assets are houses. Natural England fully recognise this, and they grant assisted the substantial repairs required to prevent another barn being lost. After very carefully dismantling the unstable sections of the barn the main timber framing was repaired with traditional jointing techniques. Masonry infill panels were constructed with lime mortar and the upper infill panels were constructed with woven chestnut lath and staves. The quality of the restoration of this barn over a six month period was recognised by Wychavon District Council with a merit in conservation award, and has appeared in the National Federation of Builders heritage magazine.
